2 dead, 19 hospitalized after drinking contaminated water in Chennai

Two people have died after drinking suspected contaminated water in Tamil Nadu’s capital Chennai, while 19 others have been hospitalized for treatment. The situation is said to have arisen due to sewage entering the drinking water following recent rains in Pallavaram area of ​​the city.

Tamil Nadu Health Minister Ma Subramaniam visited the hospital and inquired about the well-being of the patients. He said the water samples have been sent to the King Institute of Preventive Medicine and Research in Guindy for detailed testing. Subramaniam said that the exact cause of death of the deceased will be known after the post-mortem report.

A 56-year-old and a 42-year-old man died

The deceased have been identified as 56-year-old Thiruvethi and 42-year-old Mohanrangam. Hospital officials said Mohanrangam was brought dead. The health minister said that a total of 34 people were admitted to the hospital, of which 14 have been discharged and 19 patients are undergoing treatment.

Local residents claimed that sewage water in the Pallavaram area was contaminated during rains, causing the problem. The government has started a serious investigation into the matter.

MBBS student dies in hospital

In another news, MBBS student Albin George (19), who was critically injured in a horrific accident near Kalarkode in Alappuzha district of Kerala on the night of December 2, died while undergoing treatment at a private hospital.
