KARACHI: At least three security personnel have been killed in two separate terrorist attacks in Pakistan’s restive Balochistan province, police said on Sunday. Two Soldiers of the Frontier Corps A senior police officer, Sardar Rind, said three others were killed and three others injured after militants attacked a check post near a coal mine in Duki district on Saturday.
The attackers used rockets, grenades and heavy weapons during the hours-long attack, police said.
While the security forces responded effectively, resulting in casualties among the attackers, the exact number of those killed or injured on their side is unconfirmed.
In another incident, militants in Jiwani town of Gwadar targeted a Pakistan Coast Guard patrol with an improvised explosive device (IED) near a lighthouse in Daran area. A security guard was killed in the attack, police said.
Meanwhile, in Kalat town, tension erupted after unidentified persons torched a monument near the historic Miri Fort. The monument, a symbol of Baloch culture, was heavily damaged, with two statues destroyed in the fire, officials said.
The incident has been widely condemned by local residents, who expressed anger at the destruction of a cultural symbol.
