Detectives made a breakthrough in the murder of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson after they found a shell emblazoned with the words ‘.denied‘,’Rescue‘, and’to depose‘ inscribed on them.
Police sources told ABC News that a mask containing cryptic messages was found at the scene. Officials are trying to decipher the cryptic message.
Investigators found several pieces of evidence that would help them find the killer.
Brian Thompson, 50, was shot outside the Hilton Hotel at 1335 Avenue of the Americas shortly after 6:45 a.m. (local time) after arriving early for the company’s annual investor conference. According to CBS News, police said a man wearing a mask approached him and shot him repeatedly.
Multiple videos circulating on social media show a gunman targeting Thomson from a distance and shooting him twice in the back and once in the leg.
According to the NYPD, the gunman fled toward Central Park on an e-bike.
Who was the woman in the video?
In the video, a woman dressed in dark clothing is seen running through a door clutching a cup of coffee as the attacker opens fire nearby.
The man’s identity remains unknown, and authorities have not suggested a connection between him and Thompson. Their reaction suggests they were unaware of the incident, initially seeking shelter before fleeing. Investigators are desperate to find this crucial witness, the Daily Mail reported.
What was found in the officers’ phones?
Authorities have recovered a mobile phone from the escape route alley. During the forensic investigation, its ownership and contents remain undisclosed.
Where is the gunman who got away on the bike?
Reports indicate that the perpetrator fled on foot up Sixth Avenue, obtained an electric bicycle and headed down Center Drive toward Central Park before disappearing. Initially, police suggested collaborating with Lyft on Citi Bike tracking, but officials later clarified that the bicycles were not from their fleet. Questions remain about the method of obtaining bicycles, whether through rental, theft or private ownership.
Despite extensive search efforts involving drones, canine units, helicopters and ground forces, the culprit is still at large. The suspect was last seen entering Central Park at 6:48am (local time), possibly changing clothes from items in his large rucksack to avoid identification.
