In a major operation, the Government Railway Police (GRP) has seized 60 kg of silver jewelery at Rourkela railway station in Odisha. According to the information, this silver was being transported illegally by a train. Police arrested a man named Chandan Kumar who was traveling from Agra to Ranchi. He did not give satisfactory answers during the interrogation, after which he was handed over to the GST department.

Bought 51 kg of silver in Agra

Chandan Kumar told the officials that he had to stay in Rourkela as he could not get a direct train to Ranchi. However, he did not give a proper answer for carrying such a large quantity of silver. Jagdish Chandra Saha, deputy commissioner of GST department, said that Chandan Kumar bought 51 kg of silver in Agra and presented some bills for the same, but several irregularities were found in these bills. Further, he purchased 10 kg more silver in Rourkela but did not present any bill for the same.

Is the silver stolen or legitimate?

Saha also said that there were several flaws in the documents presented, due to which it could not be clear whether the silver was stolen or purchased legally. Officials also said that the truth of the entire matter will come out only after investigation. The GST department has seized the silver and related documents and is investigating the matter. Officials say they are trying to find out where such a large quantity of silver was brought from and for what purpose it was being taken. (Reporting by Shubham Kumar)
