New Delhi: The Ministry of External Affairs has issued a travel advisory amid the worsening situation in Syria day by day. The advisory advises Indian nationals to avoid travel to Syria till further orders. The advisory issued by the Ministry of External Affairs said that the situation in Syria is dire. Currently, travel to Syria is very dangerous.
Helpline number announced
“In view of the prevailing situation in Syria, Indian nationals are advised to avoid travel to Syria till further orders,” the Ministry of External Affairs said in a press release. Also people who are in Syria are advised to leave Syria as soon as possible. Ministry of External Affairs has also issued emergency helpline number +963993385973 and email id hoc.damascus@mea.gov.in.
Be aware of security
Indian nationals present in Syria are requested to get in touch on the emergency helpline number (also on WhatsApp) and email id of the Indian Embassy in Damascus. Those who are able to leave Syria should do so as soon as possible. Indians living in Syria have also been asked to be very careful about their safety and limit their movements.
Syrian city of Homs captured by rebels
Let us tell you that after capturing most of the country’s largest city, Aleppo, the rebels have also captured a large part of the central Syrian city of Homs on Thursday. Thousands of people have fled the city of Homs. Rebels have prepared for a potentially major offensive in their campaign against President Bashar al-Assad. Earlier, the rebels captured Hama, the fourth largest city in Syria.
Meeting of Foreign Ministers of Iran, Iraq and Syria
The army said it had withdrawn to avoid fighting inside the city and to save civilian lives. Rebels led by the jihadist Hayat Tahrir al-Sham group (HTS) have vowed to march on Homs and the capital Damascus. Meanwhile, the foreign ministers of three close allies, Iran, Iraq and Syria, gathered in Baghdad on Friday to discuss the rapidly changing war. Iraqi Foreign Minister Fawad Hussein expressed “deep concern” and said his government was closely monitoring the situation in Syria. Syrian Foreign Minister Bassam Sabagh said the current development could pose a “serious threat to the security of the entire region”.
