Mumbai: Bangladesh is in the news these days for attacks on Hindus and Islamic fundamentalists are constantly targeting minorities. Hardly a day goes by without news of attacks on Hindus and vandalism of temples. Muslim scholars in India have expressed their anger over atrocities on Hindus in Bangladesh. All India Sunni Jamiat Ulama, Raza Academy and Jamiat Ulema-e-Ahle Sunnat jointly convened an emergency meeting of Ulemas on the issue of attacks on Hindus in Bangladesh at the Handiwali Masjid in Mumbai, which was attended by local Ulemas and Sheikhs.
‘We’re ready to hit the road’
Presiding over the meeting, Haji Muhammad Saeed Noori, founder and head of Raza Academy, said, ‘Atrocities and excesses in any country are not only sad but reprehensible. Now that Hindus are being attacked in Bangladesh, a Muslim majority country, this is not acceptable under any circumstances. This is not only against Islamic teachings but also a violation of human rights. The Bangladesh government should immediately stop the attacks on the Hindu community in their country and make strict security arrangements to protect their temples. If not, the Ulema-e-Sunnah of India is ready to hit the road against Bangladesh.
Haji Noori warned Bangladesh
The founder of Raza Academy further said, ‘Bengali Muslim youth were seen guarding temples during the unrest that erupted during Sheikh Hasina’s rule. What happened now that there are attacks on minorities? He appealed to the head of the interim government, Muhammad Yusuf, to keep a strict check on the riots and take special measures to protect the minorities. Haji Noori warned that if the Bangladesh government does not take action in this regard, there will be violent protests against Bangladesh across India with the help of Raza Academy and other organizations.
‘Bangladesh’s image will be affected’
Prince Sher Millat Maulana Izaz Ahmed Kashmiri, who was present in the meeting, said, ‘If the situation in Bangladesh is not stopped soon, it will affect the image of Bangladesh in the whole world and it will get into many problems. Muhammad Yusuf should immediately stop the attacks on Hindus and take strict action against the organizations involved, so that the minority community can feel safe. We stand with Bangladeshi minorities in every situation. If the attacks do not stop, we will besiege the Bangladeshi embassy in Delhi.
‘Torture in any form is unacceptable’
Maulana Khalilur Rahman Noori said, ‘Atrocity in any form is unacceptable, whether it is in our country, Bangladesh or Palestine. We will always stand against oppression and with the victims. This is the powerful message of Islam, by following which we can help the victims. Maulana Amanullah Raza appealed to the Government of India to investigate the incidents of attacks on Hindus, so that the extremist elements of our country cannot take advantage of the situation there. He said, ‘All the Muslims of India stand and will stand with the Bangladeshi minorities.’
