New Delhi: AAP MP Raghav Chadha and film star Parineeti Chopra gave a candid interview for the first time since their marriage on Rajat Sharma’s show ‘Aap Ki Adalat’ last year. The duo revealed how they met in London, became friends in Punjab and eventually got married in a colorful ceremony in Udaipur. Parineeti and Raghav Chadha recounted how they had to leave behind their security personnel and go out of public view at gurudwaras and other places. They also told how they met once at a friend’s farm before deciding to get married.
Parineeti also revealed that when she was working as an intern at Yash Raj Films, actor Ranveer Singh saw her doing some dance steps to the tune of ‘Sheela Ki Jawani’. Ranveer asks her if she wants to become an actress. Aditya Chopra later signed her for three films starting with ‘Ladies Vs Ricky Bahl’. Raghav Chadha joked that Parineeti’s character in that film was named Dimple Chadha. Parineeti replied, ‘Yes, one of her brothers told me that one day you will become a member of the Chadha family.’
First meeting
Parineeti told in ‘Aap Ki Adalat’ how she met Raghav Chadha during an award function in London. She said, ‘I was there to receive the Outstanding Achiever Award in Entertainment and he (Raghav) came to receive the award in Politics and Governance.’
Parineeti said, ‘I did not know Raghav. My brother was a big fan. My brother Shivang asked me to meet him. I told the organizers that I wanted to meet Raghav. Raghav was sitting behind me. I went to him. I said, ‘Hello, I am married, my brother is your big fan’. ‘How sweet’ he said. He continued, ‘We will meet’. I said, ‘Sure, see you in Mumbai.’ Raghav replied: ‘Why don’t we meet here tomorrow? I was stunned.
Parineeti Chopra: ‘I said OK. The next morning I went with 3 managers, who also came with the planners. There were a total of 10-12 people at the table. There didn’t seem to be any dates. The whole platoon was there together. What is happening? Now the story of the film begins. We were talking about the whole world, I told him that I do meditation, scuba diving. An hour passed. Suddenly he felt hungry, he immediately got up, went and came back with all the food in his plate. I thought, it’s the first time we’ve met, usually, we don’t reveal ourselves on the first meeting, I said, man, he’s a very nice guy.
Parineeti said: ‘Now begins the filmy moment. He brought the plate and started eating. I was looking at him. A bell rang in my mind. I thought, ‘I will marry this man’. There was a twist in the story. I didn’t know anything about it. So handsome to look at. By then, the interest in food and drink had also stopped. The meeting ended, and I went to my room and started Googling – who is Raghav Chadha? Is Raghav Chadha Married? Then the ‘main’ question, how old is Raghav Chadha? All the answers were correct. It was found that he is a Rajya Sabha MP. I learned this exactly by googling, anyway guys, I did a lot of googling, so I thought I’d get married.
Rajat Sharma: Raghav, do you know about Parineeti Chopra and her films?
Raghav Chadha: ‘I knew that completely. When he said let’s meet in the morning, I also said let’s meet, hit the boundary at the right time. After that the series of meetings started. When she came back to India, she came straight to Punjab for shooting, where I was working, our government is there. Then we kept meeting there a lot and then slowly the trend started.
Rajat Sharma: ‘Did you meet in secret or in public?’
Raghav Chadha: ‘First we used to meet secretly. At first we met very secretly. I told all the people who were with me that I had to go alone to meet someone. I wondered where we would meet alone at half past eight at night. His shooting was over. He also told his security men, “you guys go”, and he came alone in the car. Then we sat comfortably in the farm barn.
Parineeti Chopra: Farm and barn?
Raghav Chadha: My acquaintance had a garden.
Parineeti Chopra: Pause your thinking, rewind your thinking, not in the fields, it was somebody’s house, we met in his garden.
Raghav Chadha: Then we continued to meet. Once went to Gurdwara Chamkaur Sahib for darshan.
The celebrity couple also answered questions about their grand wedding in Udaipur.
Raghav Chadha clarified that where 40 to 50 rooms were booked for the guests and where the wedding took place, it was a 5 star hotel in Udaipur and not a 7 star hotel. “None of the room rents were Rs 10 lakh as alleged,” Chadha said.
Parineeti said, ‘Style comes from taste, not money.’ Raghav Chadha said that his uncle, a fashion designer, designed all his clothes.
Kejriwal
When the then Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal was arrested and sent to jail, when asked why he disappeared from the scene for 71 days, Raghav Chadha replied: ‘Let me tell you the truth. The truth is that I had to give a lecture at the London School of Economics in the first week of March. Then I had to have preventive eye surgery to correct some spots on the retina. After recovery I returned and spent the month of May campaigning for our party in Delhi and Punjab. People were trying to end my 13-year political journey by making false accusations against me. All I can say is, ‘Don’t try to make your presence felt, make your absence felt’.”
Punjab Remote Control
To Rahul Gandhi’s allegation that RC stands for remote control and that RC stands for Raghav Chadha and that he is running Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann’s government in Punjab by “remote control”, Chadha replied: ‘I believe that Punjab is being run by remote control, But the remote control is in the hands of the people. People change channels whenever they want and with God’s blessings this channel (AAP) will continue even now. My party has given me the task of helping my elder brother Bhagwant Maan ji by making him his advisor and I am fulfilling my responsibility. I have a “beautiful relationship” with Bhagwant Maan Ji. He was my first friend when he joined Aam Aadmi Party in 2014.
When Akali Dal leader Daljit Singh Cheema called him the super CM of Punjab, Raghav Chadha laughed and said, ‘I am a super servant of Punjab, not a super CM.’
