Champions Trophy 2025 is scheduled to be held on Pakistani soil. But the BCCI has refused to send the team there and has demanded a hybrid model. Which was completely rejected by the Pakistan Cricket Board. Then there were reports that the ICC had given the PCB an ultimatum to accept the hybrid model or stay out of the Champions Trophy. During this time, the ICC held several meetings with the BCCI and PCB officials, in which the PCB agreed to a hybrid model. But it has also stipulated that the hybrid model will be applicable for the tournament to be held in India. Which is not acceptable to BCCI. For this reason the Champions Trophy schedule has not been announced yet. Now Shahid Afridi has given his opinion about this.
Avoid playing in India: Afridi
Former Pakistan star all-rounder Shahid Afridi, while speaking at an Urdu conference organized at the Karachi Arts Council, advocated the PCB to take a tough stance on cricket relations with India, saying that Pakistan has to be self-reliant to take strong decisions. If India cannot come and play in Pakistan then there is no reason for us to go and play in India.
Afridi also advised the ICC
Shahid Afridi said that unless India agrees to send its team to Pakistan, it should refrain from sending the national team to India for any cricket competition, including ICC tournaments. He said that the ICC also now has to decide whether it wants to make money only or fulfill its responsibility by ensuring that every member country gets a chance to play cricket.
Indian team has not played Pakistan cricket since 2008. Political relations between the two countries deteriorated after the 2008 Mumbai terror attacks. Now both the teams are seen playing only in ICC tournaments and Asia Cup. The last time the Champions Trophy was organized was in the year 2017. Then Pakistan won the title by defeating India.
