Cyber Police Registers FIR Over Defamatory Emails Targeting CUK Officials

Srinagar, March 19, KDC: The Cyber Police Station, Kashmir Zone, has registered an FIR following a complaint from the Central University of Kashmir (CUK) regarding alleged defamatory emails targeting university authorities.

A senior police official told Srinagar-based news gathering agency Kashmir Dot that the Cyber Police Station, Kashmir Zone, received an email from the Central University of Kashmir (CUK) requesting the registration of an FIR against unknown persons.

“The complaint alleges that miscreants are spreading false and baseless accusations against university authorities through specific email IDs. These emails were reportedly sent to the Ministry of Education, UGC, and funding agencies, allegedly with the intent to disrupt university funding,” the official said.

He further stated that the accused had also misused the names of university officials to defame both the institution and individuals, including making derogatory and abusive remarks against a female officer.

“Upon review, the allegations prima facie attract offenses under Section 67 of the IT Act and Sections 79 & 356(2) of the BNS,” he added.

Accordingly, FIR No. 02/2025 first e-FIR has been registered at Cyber Police Station, Kashmir Zone, and further investigation is underway. (KDC)
