Govt hospital fees doubled, OPD, blood test also expensive, decision in this state

The Karnataka government has hiked the fees of the state’s hospitals. In Karnataka, treatment and diagnostic tests have become 20 percent more expensive in hospitals under the Department of Medical Education. Fees for many services have also doubled. The increased fees have come into effect in hospitals under Bangalore Medical College and Research Institute (BMCRI) and various autonomous medical teaching institutions in Karnataka. Let’s know how much fees have increased for which services in hospitals.

What did the officials say?

BMCRI officials told TOI that the fees for treatments, surgeries, various blood tests and scans have been revised. Officials argue that the fee was last revised 5-6 years ago. This increase will help in the maintenance of hospitals. Officials termed it a minor fee hike. He said that not all tests and treatments cost 20% more, some blood tests are still free.

Where and how much did the fee increase?

According to TOI, after the fee revision, the fee for a special ward (2 patients) has been increased from Rs 750 to Rs 1,000. The fee of single bed special ward has been increased from Rs 750 to Rs 2000. The general ward fee has been increased from Rs 15 to Rs 20. The OPD registration fee has been doubled from Rs 10 to Rs 20.

As per the revised rules, the inpatient registration fee will be Rs. Increased from Rs 25 to Rs 50 and patient bed fee from Rs 30 to Rs 50. Fees for postmortem, medical examination, injury and physical fitness certificate have been increased from Rs 250 to Rs 300. The cost of medical board certificate has now increased from Rs 350 to Rs 500. Apart from this, a new charge of Rs 50 for diet advice and Rs 100 for diet related advice has been added.
