PM Narendra Modi’s visit to Gaya: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has created history by visiting Guyana for the first time as Indian Prime Minister in 56 years. Guyana President Mohammad Irfan Ali, Prime Minister Mark Anthony Phillips and dozens of cabinet ministers gave PM Modi a grand welcome when he arrived in Georgetown on Wednesday. PM Modi has also addressed a special session of the Parliament of Guyana. Meanwhile, he said that every effort you make to strengthen democracy in Guyana is strengthening world development.
Relations between India and Guyana are cordial
Addressing a special session of Guyana’s Parliament, PM Modi said, “The relationship between India and Guyana is very deep, it is a relationship of soil, sweat and toil. About 180 years ago, an Indian landed on the soil of Guyana. And after that joy and sorrow. In both times the relations between India and Guyana have been cordial.”
Democracy first, humanity first
In his address, PM Modi said, the strongest mantra to face the world today is – democracy first, humanity first. First, the spirit of democracy teaches us to walk with all, to carry all together and to share in the development of all. A sense of first humanity dictates the direction of our decisions. When Humanity First is made the basis of decisions, the results are beneficial to humanity as well. First, the spirit of democracy teaches us to walk together, walking together makes everyone a partner in development.
PM Modi recalled the old days
In his address, PM Modi said, “24 years ago, as a curiosity, I got an opportunity to come to this beautiful country. Usually people prefer to go to countries where there is hype, but I felt the heritage of Guyana. And the need to understand the history. Even today you will find many people in Guyana who will remember my visit there.
India and Guyana saw similar struggles
Addressing a special session of Guyana’s Parliament, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said, “In the last 200-250 years, India and Guyana have seen the same slavery, the same struggle. During the freedom struggle, many people have been killed. Here and there, both have sacrificed their lives today. Countries are strengthening democracy in the world, therefore, I congratulate you on behalf of 140 crore people of India.
