Srinagar, April 16: A 5.9 magnitude earthquake struck northeast of Kabul, Afghanistan, early Wednesday morning, sending tremors across various parts of Jammu and Kashmir, including the Kashmir Valley.
According to the National Centre for Seismology, the quake occurred at 4:43 AM IST, with its epicentre in the Hindu Kush region of Afghanistan at latitude 35.83°N and longitude 70.60°E, at a depth of 75 kilometres
Residents across parts of Kashmir reported moderate tremors that lasted a few seconds. However, there were no immediate reports of damage or casualties from the valley.
The tremors were felt approximately 190 km northeast of Kabul, 327 km northwest of Islamabad, 343 km south-southeast of Dushanbe, 397 km west-northwest of Gulmarg, and 428 km west-northwest of Srinagar.
