Mumbai Indians lost a diamond player! Due to which the golden opportunity was lost

The IPL 2025 Mega Auction is taking place in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, with the first day of the auction completed. In which star wicketkeeper batsman Rishabh Pant has become the most expensive player, he has been bought by the Lucknow Super Giants team for Rs 27 crore. While the Punjab Kings team has bought Shreyas Iyer for 26.75 crores. But the Mumbai Indians team missed the chance to get back the star player by using the first RTM in the mega auction. This player is none other than Akash Madhwal.

Akash Madhwal bought by Rajasthan Royals

Akash Madhwal has performed well for Mumbai Indians in recent times and has proved to be quite economical. He took 14 wickets in IPL 2023 and five wickets in IPL 2024. He has also taken five wickets once in IPL. Madhwal also has good line and length and is known to take wickets on important occasions. A bidding war for Madhwal was also witnessed between Rajasthan Royals and Punjab Kings. But the Mumbai Indians team did not bid on this player in the auction. The special thing is that Mumbai did not even have the option of RATEam, as the team had already used it for Naman Dhir. In such a situation if Mumbai had RTM they could have got this player back.

Mumbai bought only four players

Mumbai Indians bought only four players on the first day of the auction. Which includes Trent Boult, Naman Dhir, Robin Minz and Karn Sharma. Earlier in the IPL retention, Mumbai retained Jasprit Bumrah, Hardik Pandya, Suryakumar Yadav, Rohit Sharma and Tilak Verma. He had an RTM, which he used for Naman Dhir. Mumbai is counted among the most successful franchises in the IPL and the team has won the title five times under the captaincy of Rohit Sharma.
