Google has warned users about cyber fraud. Scammers are constantly adopting new methods to deceive people. Due to digital penetration, it is becoming easier for scammers to dupe people. Google recently revealed the 5 most recent online scam trends, compiled by Google’s Trust and Safety team. The tech company has warned people about this latest online scam trend and advised them to be careful.

Deepfake

Many cases of fraud by DeepFake are coming to light these days. Hackers use generative AI to create realistic public figures, which look very real. After this people are offered fake investments, loans etc. Not only this, people are lured through messages, e-mails etc., so that they can easily fall into their trap.

Google said in its warning that such scams are very complex, with scammers committing multiple types of fraud in a single campaign. To avoid such scams, look out for unrealistic expressions of public figures in any AI generated video and also pay attention to promotions. If you feel something strange, be alert.

Crypto investment scam

Google said that these days there is a big fraud going on in the name of cryptocurrency. Cryptocurrency is a highly valued digital asset, due to which people are lured and cheated by the greed of better returns. To avoid such scams, avoid any investment with unrealistic returns.

Fake apps

These days, cyber criminals are also tricking users by downloading fake apps. Users are being tricked into downloading fake apps from big brands by cloning their landing pages. Users mistakenly upload their personal information to fake apps, which reach hackers. Not only this, hackers steal users’ bank details by installing fake apps on their phones. To avoid this, users should not download any third party app on the phone. Also, don’t open unknown URLs or links.

Landing page clocking

Google said scammers use cloaking technology to direct users to fake websites within the system. In this way, by altering the landing page, their information is stolen and fraud is committed. For example, a user is redirected to a fake e-commerce website and the credit or debit card details are stolen as soon as they are entered to buy any product. Users must pay attention to the URL of the website to avoid such scams. If the URL is secure it will start with green ie (https).

Cybercriminals take advantage of major events and even natural disasters to defraud people. In the name of natural calamities and elections, fake charities are promoted and people are cheated.
