Srinagar, July 06, KDC: The MSME Development Forum (MSME-DF) Kashmir Chapter, under the leadership of State Convenor Dr. Touseef Ahmed, held a meeting with Union Minister for Commerce and Industries, Piyush Goyal, in Srinagar today.
The delegation, comprising Co-Convenor Khair Ul Nisa, Industries Head Syed Parvaiz Qalander, and Handicraft Chapter representative Sajad Shah, discussed critical challenges faced by industries and commerce in Jammu & Kashmir, with a focus on fostering sustainable growth for Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in the region.
During the meeting, SP Qaiser presented a comprehensive report detailing the opportunities and obstacles encountered by the industrial sector in J&K, emphasizing the need for targeted interventions to boost MSME growth. Sajad Shah highlighted specific issues plaguing the handicraft industry, including supply chain bottlenecks, market access challenges, and the need for modern infrastructure to enhance the global competitiveness of Kashmir’s renowned artisanal products.
A significant highlight of the meeting was the formal presentation of the book Titled Setting Up Industry in Kashmir, authored by SP Qaiser, to Union Minister Piyush Goyal. The book outlines actionable strategies for industrial development in the region, offering insights into leveraging J&K’s unique potential to create a robust industrial ecosystem.
Union Minister Piyush Goyal commended the MSME-DF Kashmir Chapter for its proactive efforts and assured the delegation of the Central Government’s unwavering support to address the concerns raised. He emphasized the importance of aligning with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of ‘Zero Defect, Zero Effect’ to promote high-quality, sustainable manufacturing. The Minister also reiterated the government’s commitment to streamlining processes, improving infrastructure, and facilitating market access for MSMEs in J&K.
Dr. Touseef Ahmed, State Convenor, MSME-DF Kashmir Chapter, expressed gratitude for the Minister’s engagement and reaffirmed the Forum’s dedication to collaborating with the government to drive industrial growth and empower local entrepreneurs. “This meeting marks a significant step toward addressing the challenges faced by our industries and handicraft sector. We are optimistic about the actionable outcomes that will emerge from this dialogue,” he said.
