Simi Valley: America has once again come forward to help Ukraine. US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin has said that almost a billion US dollars more will be given in aid to arms Ukraine. This is being done because the Biden administration wants to spend the entire amount approved by Congress to strengthen Kiev before the newly elected US President Donald Trump takes office next month.
Ukraine needs weapons
The latest aid to Ukraine will provide drones and ammunition for the ‘High Mobility Artillery Rocket System’ or HIMARS. Ukraine is currently in dire need of these weapons, which will be made available through the ‘Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative’. The weapons provided by this initiative are intended to enhance the future capabilities of the Ukrainian military and not to bring immediate changes to the battlefield.
US military support to Ukraine
How much has America helped so far?
Since Russia’s invasion in February 2022, the US has provided more than US$62 billion in military aid to Ukraine. “The process of providing this assistance will begin soon,” Austin said. Asked whether Trump would continue military support for Ukraine, Austin said, “This administration has decided to provide assistance in its own way.” The next administration will take its decision on Additional Assistance (AP).
