Anantnag | June 2, KDC: In a step toward tackling the growing threat of drug abuse, the Achabal Police, in collaboration with the Drugs Control Department, carried out a series of coordinated raids across several areas in Anantnag today, targeting pharmacies violating drug sale regulations.
As part of the joint operation, more than 20 inspections were conducted across Achabal, Trahpoo, Kanganhall, and Tailwani. Authorities disallowed the operations of five medical establishments found in violation of licensing norms and regulations related to the sale and record-keeping of habit-forming medicines.
The pharmacies barred from operation include Hope Chemists and Druggists (Achabal), Mushtaq Medical Store (Achabal), Friends Pharmacy (Trahpoo), Rafique Medical Store, and Emmad Medical Store (Tailwani). Officials cited the absence of proper sales records and non-compliance with licensing conditions as key violations.
Despite the crackdown, the inspection also revealed encouraging signs of compliance across several outlets, with most medical shops found equipped with computerized billing systems and surveillance setups.
A senior official from the Drugs Control Department said that such joint efforts aim to curb the misuse of prescription drugs and send a strong message to violators. “The health and safety of the public is our top priority. Any pharmacy found indulging in unethical practices will face strict legal action,” the official said.
Achabal Police officials reiterated their commitment to continue such operations and called for greater community cooperation in identifying sources of illegal drug distribution. (KDC)
