The preliminary results of a national census conducted in Iraq nearly 40 years later show that the country’s population has grown to 45.4 million. The Prime Minister of Iraq gave this information on Monday. The nationwide census, conducted earlier this month, aims to modernize data collection and planning in a country wracked by long-standing conflict and political division.
The population of Iraq increased to 4.54 crores
Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani said on Monday that preliminary results showed the country’s population had reached about 45.4 million. An unofficial census in 2009 estimated the population of the country to be approximately 3.16 crore.
The census was conducted in 1987
According to preliminary results on Monday, the gender ratio is almost the same, with males making up 50.1 percent of the population and females 49.8 percent. The last nationwide census in Iraq was conducted in 1987. The second census of 1997 did not include the Kurdish region.
