Kiev: Ukraine has launched a major drone attack on a Russian weapons depot after Donald Trump was elected US president. Ukrainian drones attacked a ammunition factory in central Russia overnight, a source in Ukraine’s SBU security service told Reuters on Saturday. The attack hit the Aleksinsky chemical plant, which produces gunpowder, ammunition and weapons, in the Tula region, about 200 km (120 miles) south of Moscow, the source said. The attack was part of a strategy to target factories supporting Moscow’s war on Ukraine.
Attacks on Russia’s military-industrial complex, its “weapons depots, military airfields and enterprises reduce Russia’s ability to terrorize Ukraine,” the SBU source said. The source did not give an estimate of the damage to the Aleksinsky factory. Russian state news agency Tass reported that Russia’s Defense Ministry said its forces shot down 50 Ukrainian drones in seven Russian regions overnight. As the war against Russia approaches its 1,000th day, Ukraine is on the backfoot on the battlefield against its bigger and better foes.
Ukrainian villages are also being destroyed due to the Russian attack
The Russian attack here is also causing massive destruction in the villages of Ukraine. Russian troops continue to advance in the eastern Donetsk region. They are breaching Ukrainian defense lines and destroying cities and villages there with guided aerial bombs and artillery. The Ukrainian General Staff said on Saturday that the situation on the front line was critical, with more than 170 military clashes recorded in the past 24 hours, most of them in the east. Ukrainian officials say attacks on military facilities, warehouses and airfields in Russia will disrupt logistics and supplies for Moscow troops. It would also help turn the war in Ukraine’s favor. Since September, Ukraine has attacked several ammunition warehouses in Russia with Ukrainian-made long-range drones, according to Ukrainian security officials. (Reuters)
