“These birds, which travel from different parts of the world, will inhabit and roam among the wetlands of Kashmir during the winter months. To protect these migrant visitors, the department has formulated strict guidelines,” reads an advisory, a copy of which is with News Vibes of India (NVI).
The development comes at a time when hundreds of migratory birds are flocking to Kashmir’s wetlands to stay here till the start of summer.
The advisory further reads that entry into wetlands without prior permission is prohibited. “Bird watchers must obtain proper authorization to access these areas. Any unauthorized entry will be treated as a violation of the Wildlife Protection Act, 1972, and legal action will be taken against the offenders,” it said.
He also appealed to media outlets to create awareness and encourage the community to protect these avian guests during their stay. “Together, we can ensure the protection and preservation of these magnificent creatures,” the notice said.
