Dhaka: A Bangladesh court on Tuesday rejected the bail plea of Chinmoy Krishna Das Brahmachari, the leader of the Hindu organization Sanlameet Sanatni Jot, and ordered him to be sent to jail. According to ‘bdnews24.com’, “Chittagong Sixth Metropolitan Magistrate Kazi Shariful Islam gave this order at around 11:45 pm on Tuesday.” Slogans started being raised in the campus.

India expressed concern
India’s Ministry of External Affairs issued a statement expressing deep concern over the arrest and denial of bail to Chinmay Das and asked Bangladesh to ensure the safety of all minorities. A statement issued by the Government of India said, “We are deeply concerned over the arrest and denial of bail to Chinmay Krishna Das.” The incident follows several attacks on Hindus and other minorities by violent elements in Bangladesh. Several cases of arson and looting of minority houses and commercial establishments as well as theft and vandalism and desecration of deities and temples have been reported.”
Criminals roam freely
The foreign ministry statement added that “it is unfortunate that the perpetrators of these incidents are still walking freely, while charges are being leveled against a religious leader who raised legitimate demands through a peaceful gathering.” The ministry also expressed concern over attacks on Hindus protesting the arrest of a religious leader.
He was arrested at the airport
Bangladesh Police arrested Chinmoy Prabhu from Dhaka’s Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport on Monday. “Das was detained as per (regular police) request,” police detective branch spokesperson Rizaul Karim said, however, without elaborating on the charges.
Accused of insulting the national flag
‘BDnews24’ news portal quoted Gaurang Das Brahmachari, chief coordinator of ‘Sanatni Jagran Jot’ as saying on Monday that Das was going to Chittagong by air from Dhaka. Earlier, on October 30, a case was registered against 19 people, including Das, at the Kotwali police station in Chittagong for allegedly desecrating the Bangladesh national flag during a rally by the Hindu community in Chittagong’s New Market area. had gone (language)
