BCCI’s new secretary announced, will replace Jai Shah

BCCI New Secretary: After Jai Shah became the ICC President, the post of BCCI Secretary has become vacant. Now there is a big news about this post. BCCI’s new secretary has been announced. The BCCI President has appointed Devjit Saikia as the Executive Secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India i.e. BCCI. Devjit Saikia will replace Jai Shah, who recently took over as the new ICC chairman. Hailing from Assam, Saikia is a former first class cricketer. Currently he is the Joint Secretary of BCCI.

Roger Binny exercised his constitutional powers to appoint Saikia as acting secretary until a permanent secretary was appointed under the BCCI rules and regulations. It is believed that Saikia will continue in the position until September next year, after which the post will be filled permanently. In a letter to Saikia, which is in PTI’s possession, Binny cited Article 7(1)(d) of the BCCI constitution to delegate secretarial powers to an official from Assam, who is also the advocate general of the state.

The post was vacant due to Jai Shah’s departure to the ICC

Jay Shah, the outgoing secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), took charge as the president of the International Cricket Council (ICC) on 1 December. He is the fifth Indian to head this global body. The 36-year-old Shah was appointed as the BCCI secretary for the last five years. Shah replaced Greg Barclay of New Zealand at the ICC, who was not interested in continuing in the post for a third consecutive term.
