The Pakistan Cricket Board often takes decisions that surprise everyone. Some time ago, limited overs coach Gary Kirsten resigned from his post. After which the PCB appointed Jason Gillespie as the limited overs acting coach, while he was already the red ball coach. Under his coaching, Pakistan team won the ODI series against Australia. Now the PCB has appointed Aqib Javed as the interim limited overs coach in his place. While Gillespie will remain the Test coach and will coach the two-Test series against South Africa.
The Champions Trophy will run till 2025
Former fast bowler Aqib Javed will remain as the interim coach of the Pakistan men’s cricket team till the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. Aqib is currently a member of the national team selection committee. He will continue this work. He will be given additional responsibilities when the Champions Trophy ends and after that. PCB will then conduct the recruitment for the head coach of the Pakistan cricket team.
Aqib Javed has coaching experience
Aqib Javed has coaching experience, which can be useful for Pakistan team. He has been Pakistan’s bowling coach and head coach of the U-19 team. He was a member of the Pakistan team that won the 1992 ODI World Cup title. He has taken 54 wickets in 22 Test matches and 182 wickets in 163 ODI matches for Pakistan team.
The series will be played against Zimbabwe and South Africa
Pakistan cricket team is scheduled to play a series of three ODIs and three T20Is against Zimbabwe. After this, there will be a series of matches against South Africa as well. Before the Champions Trophy, the Pakistani team is scheduled to play a tri-series against South Africa and New Zealand.
