BJP Trains Party Legislators Ahead of J&K Budget Session

Jammu, Feb 28: With the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly set to convene for the budget session on March 3, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Friday launched a two-day training workshop for its 28 legislators, the majority of whom are first-time MLAs. The initiative aims to enhance their effectiveness in legislative proceedings.

The ‘Vidhayak Prashikshan Shivir’ was inaugurated in Katra, 45 km from Jammu, by BJP national general secretary B L Santosh and J&K BJP president Sat Sharma. The event was attended by BJP national general secretary and J&K in-charge Tarun Chugh, MPs Jugal Kishore and Ghulam Ali Khatana, as well as Leader of Opposition Sunil Sharma and other party legislators.

With 19 first-time MLAs, the workshop focuses on legislative debates, countering opposition arguments, and articulating the party’s stance effectively. BJP national president J P Nadda and Union Minister Jitendra Singh are expected to join the workshop’s concluding session on Saturday.

Earlier, on February 23, Jitendra Singh held a luncheon meeting with BJP legislators to discuss strategy for the upcoming session, the first since 2018, when the PDP-BJP coalition collapsed in the erstwhile state.

The BJP had secured 29 seats in last year’s assembly elections, all from the Jammu region. However, the party lost one seat following the passing of MLA Devender Singh Rana in October, just weeks after the National Conference-led government was formed in the Union Territory.
