BSNL took full advantage of the mistake of Jio, Airtel, Vi, competition among users to port their numbers.

The big mistake of Jio, Airtel, Vi has got the biggest benefit to the state-owned telecom company BSNL. Between July and October, there was a competition for people to port their numbers to BSNL’s network. A recent TRAI report has shocked private telecom companies. BSNL has added record users to its network in the last 4 months. Apart from Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited, no other telecom operators have seen an increase in users. Mukesh Ambani’s company Reliance Jio has suffered the most. The country’s largest telecom company has lost more than 1 crore users.

BSNL informed through its official that the state-owned telecom company has added a total of 6.5 million i.e. 65 lakh new users in these four months, out of which 55 lakh users are connected to BSNL’s network through MNP.

The mistake proved costly

Private telecom companies made their mobile recharge plans more expensive in July. Private companies have increased mobile tariffs by up to 25% to increase their average revenue per user (ARPU). People who are already facing inflation have ported their numbers to BSNL mirroring the private companies. Despite the lack of good connectivity, millions of users are turning to BSNL. Users using Jio, Airtel and Vodafone-Idea numbers as secondary SIM have had their numbers blocked.

However, BSNL has made full progress on its network expansion. Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited is preparing to launch 4G services simultaneously across India. The company has recently installed around 51 thousand new 4G mobile towers. The company aims to install 1 lakh 4G mobile towers by June next year.

4G/5G service from next year

Union Communications Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia recently said that BSNL 4G service will be launched commercially across India by June next year. Also, BSNL is now testing 5G service as well. A senior BSNL official recently confirmed that the company will not make the plan expensive in the near future. BSNL’s main focus at present is network expansion and adding users.
