Srinagar, June 18: The Jammu and Kashmir Cabinet on Wednesday evening convened a meeting at the Civil Secretariat in Srinagar, during which it discussed the Cabinet Sub-Committee (CSC) report on the reservation policy. The report, which has stirred considerable political and public debate in recent weeks, was not approved or rejected but instead referred to the Department of Law for legal examination.
A senior Cabinet minister, quoted by a local news agency, confirmed that the government has not taken a final decision on the recommendations made in the report. “The cabinet held detailed deliberations on the CSC report regarding the reservation policy. After discussion, it was decided to send the report to the Law Department for legal opinion,” the minister said.
He also clarified that no specific timeline has been set for the return of the report. “Only after the legal vetting is completed will the report be brought back to the cabinet for a final decision,” he added.
Apart from the reservation issue, the cabinet also reviewed the prevailing tourism scenario in the Valley. Sources said the meeting included a discussion on measures to revive the tourism sector, which has seen a decline in footfall following the recent terror attack in Pahalgam.
Preparations for the upcoming Amarnath Yatra, including logistics and healthcare arrangements, were also taken up in the meeting. The annual pilgrimage is scheduled to commence on July 3.
The meeting was chaired by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and lasted for over an hour.
