Canadian PM Justin Trudeau admits government has failed on migrant issue, immigration policy was flawed

Canada Immigration Policy: Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has admitted that his government has made some mistakes that have led to record numbers of immigrants in the country. Trudeau said this in a video posted on his official YouTube channel on Sunday. “Our population has grown exponentially in the last two years. Fake colleges and fake companies have abused our immigration policies for their own ends,” Justin Trudeau said in the video. Trudeau’s statement comes at a time when he is under fire from the opposition ahead of next year’s general election. The opposition Conservative Party has also accused the Trudeau government of not prioritizing the needs of Canadian citizens.

What did Trudeau say?

Trudeau has said he tried to bring workers into the country in the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic. “We invited the workers because it was the right choice at the time,” he said. Our economy grew. Restaurants and stores reopened, businesses continued, but most importantly, we avoided a recession, despite the predictions of many economists. “Some saw it as an opportunity to cheat the system to make a profit.”

Delay in response

Trudeau added, “Many colleges and universities use international students to increase their profits. This fraud needs to stop.” “There are some bad guys who target immigrants with promises of jobs, diplomas and an easy path to citizenship,” he said. Trudeau also acknowledged that Canada was slow to respond to these challenges.

Plan from 2025 to 2027

It is to be noted that, under the new immigration policy in Canada, only 3,95,000 people will be granted permanent residency in 2025. It will see a further decline in the coming years. The plan is to grant permanent residence to only 3,80,000 people in 2026 and then 3,65,000 in 2027. This shows that Canada is now cutting back on giving PR.
