Pakistan has got the hosting rights of the Champions Trophy 2025, but the BCCI refused to send the Pakistan team and demanded a hybrid model, which was completely rejected by the PCB. For this reason there is a dilemma regarding the Champions Trophy. Now the crisis over the Champions Trophy is more complicated. While former Pakistani captain and former Prime Minister Imran Khan’s Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf party has started a protest march towards Islamabad from Sunday. There have been incidents of clashes and violence between protesters and law enforcement agencies and security forces. Union Home Minister Mohsin Naqvi announced that the army had been called in to calm the situation. Naqvi is also the Chairman of PCB. Sri Lanka A will return home due to political protests in Islamabad, playing a three-match series against Pakistan A.
Sri Lanka A’s two matches suspended
The Pakistan Cricket Board has confirmed that it has postponed the last two 50-over matches between Pakistan A and Sri Lanka A in consultation with Sri Lanka Cricket due to political unrest in the capital Islamabad. The postponed match was to be played in Rawalpindi on Wednesday and Friday. But the supporters of Imran Khan’s party PTI have completely paralyzed the capital Islamabad and a major decision has been taken in view of the protests.
New dates may be announced later
Both these matches were to be played on November 27 and 29 at the Rawalpindi Cricket Ground. Earlier, Pakistan-A thrashed the visiting team by 108 runs in the first match played in Islamabad on Monday to take a 1-0 lead in the series. In the first match, Pakistan A scored a total of 306 runs in response to which Sri Lanka A team was bundled out for just 198 runs. Haider Ali scored a brilliant century for Pakistan-A. He played an innings of 108 runs. He was given the Player of the Award for his outstanding performance. The PCB said in a press release that both the Pakistan and Sri Lankan boards will work together to fix new dates to complete the series.
