The Australian government has introduced a bill that has strict provisions to curb the negative effects of internet and mobile phones on children. According to this bill of the Australian government, children under the age of 16 will not be able to use social media in the country. This move by the Australian government has raised the question whether the Internet and social media are really having a bad effect on the minds of children.
Rules for children under 16 years of age
Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has told parliament that the government will introduce legislation banning social media for children under 16. He said in the press conference that children are constantly being harmed due to social media. He said that now is the time to stop such things which affect the mental level of children.
According to Anthony Albanis, an ordinance will be introduced in Parliament this year and this age limit for using social media will be enforced about 12 months after the law is passed. The PM said that after the law, it will be the responsibility of social media platforms to ensure that children below the age of 16 cannot use social media.
Australia will be the first country
The Prime Minister said that so far tech companies have completely failed to take any effective security measures for the future of children. In such a situation, now the government itself has to take a decision in this direction. Along with this he also said that this decision is for the parents. Let us tell you that after the new law, Australia will be the first country where the age limit for using social media will be set.
A fine of crores will be imposed
Australia’s Communications Minister Michelle Rowland said popular social media platforms such as Facebook, Reddit, Snapchat and Instagram could be fined up to $33 million (Rs 2,787,498,714) if they fail to prevent minors from creating accounts.
