The Ministry of Home Affairs today approved a historic decision aimed at empowering women and enhancing their role in national security. With this approval, the CISF has got its first all-women battalion. This is considered as a big step for women empowerment.
1025 women soldiers in the battalion
The Home Ministry has approved the formation of the first all-women battalion with over 1,000 personnel. This decision has been taken in view of the growing need of CISF personnel for duty at airports and other important institutions. According to information, this battalion will be drafted from the already sanctioned strength of 2 lakh personnel. The reserve battalion will have 1025 women soldiers. This battalion will be headed by a senior commandant level officer.

Preferred choice for CISF women
The CISF is the preferred choice for women aspiring to serve the country in the Central Armed Police Forces, which currently constitute over 7% of the force. The addition of women’s battalion will encourage more aspiring girls from across the country to join the CISF and serve the country. This will give a new identity to women in CISF.
Preparations have started
The CISF HQ has started preparations for recruitment, training and location selection for the new battalion HQ. The training is specially designed to create an excellent battalion capable of multi-faceted role as commando in VIP security as well as airport security, Delhi Metro Rail duties. On the occasion of the 53rd CISF Day, the proposal to create an all-women battalion in the force was launched in pursuance of the directive of the Hon’ble Union Home Minister.
