Srinagar, Mar 24, KDC: Cyber Police Kashmir has initiated legal action against individuals accused of misusing social media platforms to glorify militancy, radicalize youth, and spread anti-national propaganda. The crackdown comes as part of intensified cyber surveillance aimed at curbing the misuse of digital platforms for unlawful activities.
A police spokesperson, in a statement to Kashmir Dot Com, said that the crackdown follows intensified monitoring of online activities to prevent disruptions to public order and threats to national integrity. During cyber patrolling, eight individuals operating adverse social media handles were identified for posting content that promoted terrorism and extremist ideologies.
Following investigations, four individuals—Sajad Ahmad Lone from Kulgam, Zuhaib Zahoor from Brein Nishat, Abrar Mushtaq from Nawabazar, and Farhad Rasool from Check Dara, Harwan—were detained for security proceedings. Meanwhile, four juveniles found involved in similar activities were counseled and handed over to their parents, with authorities keeping them under close watch.
Cyber Police Kashmir reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring a safe and lawful cyberspace, warning that any attempt to glorify militancy, incite violence, or spread misinformation will be dealt with strictly under the law. Authorities urged social media users to act responsibly, cautioning that stringent legal action, including prosecution under relevant laws, will be taken against those found misusing digital platforms for unlawful purposes.
