London: The family of an Indian-origin woman has appealed for justice after her body was found in the trunk of a car in East London a few days ago. British police investigating the case are looking for her Indian-origin husband Pankaj Lamba on suspicion of murdering 24-year-old Harshita Brella. In an interview with the BBC this week, Brela’s mother Sudesh Kumari, father Satbir Brela and sister Sonia Dabas spoke tearfully about Harshita’s death.
What did the family say?
“I want my son-in-law to be brought to justice and my daughter’s body brought back home,” Satbir Brela told the BBC in Delhi, describing his daughter as a simple and serious young woman who wanted to become a teacher. Harshita got married last year and went to Britain in April. Sister Sonia Dabas said she told Harshita to quit her job and return to India. The family says they last spoke to Harshita on phone on November 10, when she told them that she had prepared food and was waiting for Pankaj to come home. After which Harshita’s phone was switched off for the next two days. After this, the concerned family asked some people to file a complaint on November 13.
The husband fled the country
“Following inquiries we suspect that Harshita was murdered by her husband Pankaj Lamba in Northamptonshire earlier this month,” said Chief Inspector Paul Cash of Tooke in Ilford (East London). “We believe he has now fled the country.”
The husband complained
According to the family, Harshita’s husband complained that she does not cook food on time and that she talks too much with her mother. In late August, Harshita called her father in India to say she had left home because her husband was abusive. (language)
