Donald Trump picks former Congressman Pete Hoekstra as ambassador to Canada

US President-elect Donald Trump has nominated a former congressman Pete Hoekstra As United States Ambassador to Canada.
“I am very pleased to announce that former Ambassador and former Congressman Pete Hoekstra has been nominated to be my United States Ambassador to Canada,” Trump said in a statement Wednesday.
The statement continued, “Pete is revered in the great state of Michigan – a state we won in a big way. He represented Michigan’s 2nd District in Congress for nearly 20 years, where he was also chairman of the House Intelligence CommitteeAnd was very helpful in our campaign as chairman of the Michigan Republican Party.”
Trump said Hoekstra would support his “America First” agenda during his second term. “In my second term, Pete will help me once again put America first. He did an outstanding job as United States Ambassador to the Netherlands during our first four years, and I am confident that he will continue to represent our country well in this new role. ,” added the US president-elect.
In a post on X, Pete Hoekstra expressed his gratitude and said he was “honored for this opportunity.”

Following his victory in the 2024 presidential election with 295 electoral votes to Kamala Harris’ 226, Trump has been actively assembling his foreign policy and national security teams ahead of his January 2025 inauguration.
