Government’s big decision on satellite network, did Jio and Airtel not agree? Elon Musk’s fun

The government has taken a big decision regarding the satellite service. Indian users are eagerly waiting for it. The government has made a big announcement in the Lok Sabha regarding the satellite network, leaving Jio and Airtel disappointed. At the same time, the way has been cleared for Elon Musk’s company Starlink to come to India. Union Communications Minister Pemmasani Chandrasekhar has clarified the government’s stance on satellite services during the winter session. Jio and Airtel recently presented their demands to the government regarding satellite network allocation.

Decision under the new Telecom Act

Union Communications Minister Pemmasani Chandrasekhar said in the Lok Sabha that under the new Telecom Act, we will take a decision only in the interest of the citizens of the country. Satellite service will be allocated only administratively. For this, the process of allocation will be started keeping in view the economic and technical aspects. Jio and Airtel demanded that the government follow the auction process for allocating spectrum like the terrestrial mobile network. However, the government has sought suggestions from the Department of Telecommunications and Regulators (TRAI) for this.

Recommendations have been sent to TRAI

The Department of Telecommunication has sent a letter regarding spectrum allocation to the Telecom Regulator (TRAI) as a reference, seeking advice on the cost of spectrum, technical issues related to licences, etc. These recommendations will then be sent to the satellite service providers. The Union Minister of State for Communications said, ‘TRAI is yet to send its recommendations to DoT.’ After this, a decision will be taken regarding the allocation of satellite spectrum. Jio and Airtel want an auction process, while Elon Musk’s company Starlink wants spectrum allocation through an administrative process.

Intense competition between them

Service providers Jio, Airtel, Starlink, Amazon Quiper are eyeing the satellite spectrum allocation. These companies have already made their preparations to provide satellite services in India. Jio and Airtel will be seen joining hands in satellite services like terrestrial mobile network. At the same time, Elon Musk’s company Starlink and Amazon Kuiper will also enter the fray this time. In such a situation there will be direct competition between these four service providers.
