Srinagar, Apr 25: A gunfight broke out between terrorists and security forces in the forested Kulnar area of Ajas in Bandipora district in north Kashmir on Friday, official sources said.
The encounter began after security forces launched a cordon and search operation following inputs about terrorist presence—believed to have been obtained during the interrogation of recently arrested overground workers (OGWs) in the area.
As the joint team of police and Army approached the suspected spot, hiding militants opened fire, leading to a fierce exchange. No casualties were reported so far, and the operation was ongoing at the time of filing this report.
The gunfight comes just two days after the deadly terror attack in Pahalgam that claimed at least 26 lives and amid heightened security across Jammu and Kashmir. (KDC)
