WhatsApp But these days a new scam is coming to light. People are being cheated in the name of digital wedding invitations. Himachal Pradesh Police has issued a warning to the public in this regard. These days, cyber criminals are finding new ways every day to rob people. WhatsApp is the most used messaging app not only in India but all over the world. Seeing this, cyber criminals are making WhatsApp users their prey.
Sending fake digital wedding cards
According to the report, cyber criminals are sending digital wedding cards to people in WhatsApp messages. As soon as the user clicks to open that card, their device access reaches the scammers and they get scammed. Scammers send wedding invitation messages to people on WhatsApp along with a file, which they ask to download.
These days it is the wedding season in India. In such a situation, people easily fall into this trap. Fake invitations sent by hackers include an APK file. As soon as users open this file, an app containing virus or malware gets installed in their phone. This app steals personal data from your phone and sends it to scammers. After this the scammers start their game and use your bank details to defraud.
Police alert
The Himachal Pradesh Police in its warning has told people that if you are getting a wedding invitation from an unknown number, don’t click on it. Do not open a digital wedding invitation unless you know the sender of the card. By doing this a dangerous virus will enter your phone and empty your bank account. However, this is not the first case when cybercriminals have adopted a new method to rob people. Even before this, hackers have cheated people in the name of digital arrest, courier, e-commerce delivery etc.
