Heavy traffic jam on Delhi-Meerut Expressway, thousands of vehicles started sliding at Gazipur border.

Ahead of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s visit to Uttar Pradesh’s Sambhal, traffic on the Delhi-Meerut Expressway came to a standstill as Congress workers breached barriers erected at the Gazipur border and gathered there. UP Police has set up barricades and started checking vehicles to prevent any untoward incident. “We have received information about gathering of people on the highway and have deployed security personnel to prevent any untoward incident,” said ACP Swatantra Kumar Singh.

Rahul’s convoy stopped at ‘UP Gate’

A senior police officer said that due to the ban in Sambhal, Opposition Leader Rahul Gandhi was stopped at the ‘UP Gate’ of Ghaziabad on his way to the district. In Sambhal, restrictions under Section 163 (power to issue orders in urgent cases of nuisance or imminent danger) of the Indian Civil Security Code (BNSS) have been extended till December 31. Earlier this ban was supposed to end on Sunday.

Clashes with police, Congressmen sitting on strike

A Congress delegation led by Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi is visiting violence-hit Sambhal on Wednesday. Five other Congress MPs from UP are also present with him. The convoy has been stopped at Ghazipur flyover. The administration has not given permission to go ahead. Meanwhile, there was a clash between the Congress workers and the police. At the same time, Rahul Gandhi has sought permission from a senior police officer to take care of only 4 people. The response from the administration is awaited. Rahul and Priyanka were sitting in their car. Currently uncertainty remains.

4 killed in Sambhal violence

Let us tell you that a Sambhal court ordered a survey of the Mughal era mosque on November 19 and a team conducted a survey there on the same day. Since then there has been tension. It was claimed that earlier there was a Harihar temple on the site of the mosque. Violence erupted again on 24 November when protesters gathered near the Shahi Jama Masjid and clashed with security personnel during a survey. Four people were killed while many others were injured in the violence.
