Pahalgam, Apr 23, KDC: A day after a deadly terror attack rocked the serene meadows of Baisaran in south Kashmir’s Pahalgam, Union Home Minister Amit Shah arrived at the site Wednesday to take stock of the situation.
Officials told news agency Kashmir Dot Com that Shah was briefed by senior security officers at the location where terrorists targeted a group of tourist on Tuesday afternoon, leaving dozens killed several tourists injured. He spent time assessing the security arrangements in the area.
The Home Minister is also expected to visit the hospital where the injured are undergoing treatment, sources said.
Security has been heightened across the Pahalgam belt and adjoining areas in the wake of the attack. Additional reinforcements from paramilitary forces have been deployed, and routine area domination exercises are underway to ensure safety for residents and visitors alike.
Later in the day, sources in the administration told Srinagar based news agency Kashmir Dot Com that Shah is scheduled to return to Delhi by around 5 pm to attend a crucial meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS), chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The CCS meeting is likely to deliberate on the overall security scenario in Jammu and Kashmir and possible responses to the recent terror activity. (KDC)
