How many foreign tourists visited India last year? The government disclosed in the Lok Sabha

Every year a large number of foreign tourists come to India for travel or holidays. For this reason, the contribution of the tourism sector to India’s GDP is also very significant. In this sequence, on Monday, the central government informed the Lok Sabha that the total number of foreign tourists coming to India in the year 2023 was 95.2 lakh. Along with this, the contribution of tourism sector to the country’s GDP for the year 2022-23 has been five percent.

How many tourists came for what purpose?

Union Tourism Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat has given information about the tourism sector in a written reply to a question in the Lok Sabha. Shekhawat said that among the total foreign tourists, the number of tourists traveling for holiday and entertainment purposes was 46.2 percent. At the same time, Indian immigrants accounted for 26.9 percent. Apart from this, business and professional were 10.3 percent, medical 6.9 percent, student 0.5 percent, other (including unknown) 9.2 percent.

How much contribution to GDP?

The Tourism Minister said that the contribution of the tourism sector to the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of the country was 5.01 percent in the year 2018-19, while this figure will be five percent in 2022-23. The Ministry of Tourism has taken steps to revive the tourism industry in India such as improving the quality of infrastructure and facilities at tourist destinations and increasing connectivity and accessibility at tourist destinations.

3 trillion dollars purpose of

India is becoming one of the most sought after tourist destinations in the world. To provide global reach to the tourism sector, India has set a target of a US$3 trillion tourism economy by 2047. 14.3 million foreign tourists visited India in the year 2022 and generated $17.6 billion in revenue.
