Border-Gavaskar Trophy between India and Australia is going to start in Perth. The two teams will face each other at the Optus Stadium in Perth from November 22. Although the playing eleven are yet to be announced by both the teams, Indian cricket team bowling coach Morne Markel has given a big hint about the 11 players of the visiting team.
Morne Morkel praised 21-year-old all-rounder Nitish Reddy ahead of the Perth Test. Hinting at the possibility of Nitish Reddy making his Test debut in Perth, Morkel said he could hold one end for India during the five Test matches to be played in Australia. Andhra Pradesh all-rounder Nitish Kumar Reddy came into the limelight after his brilliant performance in IPL 2024. Nitish has only 23 first-class matches to his name, but Team India has long been on the lookout for a seam-bowling all-rounder who can help the fast bowlers on overseas tours.
Nitish Reddy will be in focus
Praising Nitish Reddy, Morkel said he is one of the players. He has the potential to be an all-rounder. He is a player who can handle one end for us, especially for the first few days. He also bowls wicket-to-wicket. Any team in the world needs an all-rounder who can help the fast bowlers. It will depend on Jasprit Bumrah how he uses it. Definitely one to keep an eye on in the series.
Big update on Gill’s injury
Morkel also gave an update on Shubman Gill’s injury. He hoped that Shubman Gill would recover soon. Gill suffered a hairline fracture in his left thumb while taking a catch in the slip cordon during India’s match simulation at the WACA in Perth on 16 November. The injury threatens to rule him out of the first Test. Ace India has also recalled Devdutt Padikal after playing for India A as a back-up in the top order. He said that Shubman Gill is getting better day by day. We will decide on the morning of the test. He did well in match simulation during the build-up, so hopefully he will improve.
