New Delhi: Union Minister Giriraj Singh on Wednesday raised his voice on the Bangladesh issue, saying attacks on Hindus in Bangladesh showed that the country’s interim government was “in the grip of fundamentalists”. He asked the United Nations to intervene in the matter. Condemning the arrest of a Hindu leader in Bangladesh, he said such attacks are against humanity. The BJP, however, refrained from commenting in this regard and said it stood by the “right stand” taken by the Ministry of External Affairs on the issue.
Appeal to ensure protection of minorities
India on Tuesday expressed “deep concern” over Das’ arrest and denial of bail in Bangladesh and appealed to Bangladeshi authorities to ensure the safety of Hindus and all minorities. Commenting on the issue, BJP MP and National Spokesperson Sambit Patra said at a press conference held at the party headquarters here, “We agree with the stand of the Government of India.” Chinmoy Krishna Das Brahmachari was arrested from the Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport area of Dhaka on Monday.
The United Nations should intervene
“The acting ‘prime minister’ of Bangladesh is in the clutches of fundamentalists. The way Hindus are being attacked is against humanity. The United Nations should intervene in this matter,” Singh told reporters at the Parliament complex. Bangladesh’s interim government is headed by Chief Counsel Mohammad Yunus. .Singh said that the targeting of Hindus and the arrest of religious leaders showed that Bangladesh’s interim government, like Pakistan, Radicals dominate.
A law was made to prevent conversion
The minister was asked about the arrest of Hindu leader Chinmay Krishna Das Brahmachari in Bangladesh and the current situation there. Singh also took aim at the opposition, saying that it was cautiously raising the issue of violence but was not concerned about the problems faced by Hindus in Bangladesh. He said, “People are talking about being careful, but Rahul Gandhi, Akhilesh Yadav are not looking at Bangladesh, where Hindus are being persecuted. All Hindus should oppose the persecution happening in Bangladesh.” He called for a law to stop conversions in India. Also emphasized.
TMC also condemned the incident in Bangladesh
He said, “The conversion law in Assam should be welcomed. All states should have similar laws against conversion. Incidents of religious conversion are increasing in the country and this is unfortunate. Democracy is safe as long as the majority is ‘sanatani’.” Several other MPs also condemned the attacks on minorities in Bangladesh and demanded government intervention. “This is not a state issue but a matter related to the Centre,” said Abhishek Banerjee, a senior Trinamool Congress leader and member of the Lok Sabha. People have given their mandate to the central government. Trinamool Congress as a party has decided to support the Centre’s decision. All I can say is that whatever has happened in Bangladesh is extremely unfortunate.” Saugata Roy, another Trinamool Congress MP, also condemned the incident and said it was a matter of concern that Hindus were being persecuted. “It shouldn’t happen,” he said. I condemn it. Government should intervene in this matter.
