According to recent reports, Apple will launch the iPhone 17 Air next year alongside the regular iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max. The company may replace its Plus model with Air or Slim.
Design becomes a headache
The company is going to make a big change in the design of this thinnest iPhone of Apple. The thickness of the upcoming iPhone will be so thin that there will be no provision to install a physical SIM card. The company may offer the option of two eSIM cards in the iPhone 17 Air. The phone’s hardware will also be changed to make it thinner. According to China’s telecom regulations, it is mandatory for any phone to have a physical SIM card. In such a situation, this iPhone may be banned in China.
China has been as important a market for Apple as India. China alone accounts for 19 percent of global iPhone sales. In such a situation, iPhone customers could drop by 19 percent, causing a huge revenue loss for Apple. The iPhone 17 Air is likely to be between 5 and 6 millimeters thick. In such a situation, it is difficult to make room for a physical SIM card slot.
This has to be done to launch in China
According to the report, the company will have to redesign the iPhone 17 Air or create a unique hybrid model to launch it in the Chinese market. In addition, Apple is developing an in-house 5G model for its upcoming iPhone 17 series, which has proven to be weak compared to the performance of existing Qualcomm chips. The iPhone 17 series may be launched in September next year. Now it remains to be seen whether it gets the regulatory certificate from China or not. However, there is no problem in launching it in India. All the three leading telecom companies in India offer eSIM cards, so users won’t have any problem buying the phone.
