On the first day of the IPL 2025 mega auction, franchises bid heavily on players and spent money like water. Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) bought all-rounder Venkatesh Iyer. KKR bid heavily to buy Venkatesh Iyer and inducted him into their team for Rs 23.75 crore. Kolkata thus made it clear that Venkatesh Iyer is going to take over their team next year.
All-rounder Venkatesh Iyer expressed his happiness at being bought by his old franchise. Let us tell you that before the auction, KKR decided not to retain their 2024 IPL winning captain Shreyas Iyer. This was the reason why the team spent a lot of money in the auction to buy Venkatesh Iyer.
Kolkata Knight Riders: Venkatesh Iyer, Rinku Singh, Varun Chakraborty, Andre Russell, Sunil Narayan, Enrich Norkia, Harshit Rana, Ramandeep Singh, Quinton de Kock, Angkrish Raghuvanshi, Rahmanullah Gurbaz.
KL was damaged
Like Kolkata, Delhi Capitals also announced their captain on the first day of the auction. Delhi bought KL Rahul for just Rs 14 crore. However, KL suffered a loss of Rs 3 crore this time as he was the captain of Lucknow Super Giants for Rs 17 crore till last season. With the purchase of KL, it was clear that KL was going to be the next captain of Delhi.
Delhi Capital: Akshar Patel, KL Rahul, Kuldeep Yadav, Mitchell Starc, Tristan Stubbs, Jack Fraser McGurk, Harry Brook, Abhishek Porel, Sameer Rizvi, Karun Nair.
Pant became the most expensive player in IPL
The most shocking move came from Lucknow Super Giants. Lucknow released their captain KL Rahul before the auction and when they got the chance in the auction they tried their best to buy former Delhi captain Rishabh Pant. There was heavy bidding for Pant but LSG did not give up till the end and managed to buy the wicketkeeper-batsman for Rs 27 crore. Thus Rishabh Pant has become the most expensive player in IPL history. The way LSG spent money on Pant in the auction, it is clear that he will be seen captaining the team next season.
Lucknow Super Giants: Rishabh Pant, Nicholas Pooran, Mayank Yadav, Ravi Bishnoi, Avesh Khan, David Miller, Abdul Samad, Ayush Badoni, Mohsin Khan, Mitchell Marsh, Aidan Markram.
Punjab spent a lot of money for the captain
Punjab Kings paid Shreyas Iyer Rs. 26.75 crores included in the huge amount. Despite leading KKR to the title last season, Iyer was not retained by his team. After this, when Iyer’s name came up in the auction, Punjab spent more than 26 crore rupees to include Iyer in their team. Seeing Iyer’s great captaincy, Punjab is going to give him the captaincy of their team.
Punjab Kings: Shreyas Iyer, Arshdeep Singh, Yuzvendra Chahal, Marcus Stoinis, Shashank Singh, Glenn Maxwell, Prabhasimran Singh, Harpreet Brar
