Bahrain: The head of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has warned that Iran is rapidly increasing its stockpile of uranium that could be used to build nuclear weapons. He also said that Iran has started manufacturing advanced centrifuges. Rafael Mariano Grossi’s comments came hours after Iran announced the successful launch of a spacecraft with its highest mass ever.
What do western countries say?
Iran’s successful space launch has been blamed by the West for improving Tehran’s ballistic missile program. The launch of the Simorgh rocket comes at a time when Iran claims to have 60 percent uranium in its nuclear program. Iran says its nuclear program is peaceful, while officials are potentially looking for bombs and intercontinental ballistic missiles that Tehran could use against enemies as far away as the US.

Tensions may rise in West Asia
Iran’s move is likely to raise tensions in West Asia, where Israel’s war against Hamas in the Gaza Strip continues and attacks in Lebanon continue even after a ceasefire. However, Iran is busy preparing the ground for possible negotiations with the incoming government of US President-elect Donald Trump. Trump withdrew the US from the Tehran nuclear deal with world powers in his first term. (AP)
