Is Matt Gaetz running for Florida governor after withdrawing from Trump’s AG nomination?

Matt Getz said he will not return to Congress.

Former Congressman Matt Getz A possible run for Florida governor has been hinted at just days after President-elect Donald Trump withdrew from consideration for attorney general.
On Saturday, Gaetz responded to a post by former Florida House representative Anthony Sabatini, who wrote on X (formerly Twitter), “Gaetz will be the next governor of the state of Florida.” Getz responded with a GIF of a waving Florida state flag.
The development comes after Gaetz announced he is no longer a candidate for attorney general, fueling speculation about his political future. Florida’s current governor, Ron DeSantis, is term-limited and cannot seek re-election.
Gaetz initially resigned from Congress on November 13 after Trump nominated him to be attorney general. However, he left open the possibility of reclaiming his House seat in the 119th Congress.
Should Gaetz choose to return to the House, he would face an ongoing ethics investigation into allegations of sexual misconduct and drug use. Getz denies the allegations.
A special election to fill Gaetz’s congressional seat is scheduled for April 1, 2025.
President-elect Donald Trump announced Thursday his pick for attorney general, Pam Bondi. Bondi, formerly the attorney general in Florida, will lead the Justice Department.
