ISRO, which is flying the flag of its success in space, is going to launch the European Space Agency’s Proba-3 solar mission this evening. The solar mission was scheduled to launch from PSLV-C59 on Wednesday evening but the launch was postponed yesterday due to a malfunction in the Proba-3 spacecraft. Now this solar mission is scheduled to be launched today at 4.15 pm from Satish Dhawan Space Center in Sriharikota.
Proba-3, a project for onboard autonomy, consists of two satellites linked together. The two will fly together and send tiny data back to Earth to study the Sun’s outer atmosphere.
What is the Proba-3 mission?
- Proba-3 is the third solar mission of the European Space Agency’s Proba series.
- The special thing is that the first mission of the Proba series was also launched by ISRO in 2001.
- Teams from Spain, Belgium, Poland, Italy and Switzerland have worked on the Proba-3 mission.
- For this, about 20 crore Euros i.e. about 1,778 crore rupees have been spent.
- It will study the distance between the Sun’s inner corona and outer corona.
- It will be launched from 2 satellites simultaneously. Both the satellites will be at a distance of 150 meters from each other.
Special Features of Proba-3 Mission-
PROBA-3 is the world’s first precision formation flying satellite, which means not one but two satellites will be launched here. The first is the Coronagraph spacecraft and the second is the Occulter spacecraft. Both weigh 550 kg. Both satellites will separate after launch. These would later be positioned together to form the solar coronagraph. He will study the Sun’s corona in detail. Let us tell you that the outer atmosphere of the sun is called the corona of the sun.
