It was the first time in the history of the Navy that siblings commanded warships at the same time.

This is the first time in the history of the Indian Navy that a brother and a sister are commanding warships of the Indian Navy at the same time. Actually, Commander Prerna Devasthali and Commander Ishaan Devasthali are siblings. Both are commanding different warships at the same time. Commander Prerna Devasthali became the first woman officer to command a warship in the Indian Navy last year. Prerna is currently commanding INS Trikanth, a fast attack ship.

Brothers and sisters commanded warships

While Prerna’s brother Commander Ishan Devasthali has now been given the command of INS Vibhuti. Let us tell you that INS Vibhuti is a Veer class missile ship of Indian Navy. Let us tell you that the ship Vibhuti was a part of the steam ship given to President Draupadi Murmu off the coast of Goa in the Arabian Sea. Both the siblings are currently commanding their respective warships under the Western Command. Let it be known that on 7 November 2024, President Draupadi Murmu along with Navy Chief Admiral Dinesh K Tripathi visited the aircraft carrier INS Vrikant. He also witnessed operational demonstrations by the Indian Navy.

President Draupadi Murmu praised the Navy

Meanwhile, President Draupadi Murmu also praised the Indian Navy in her address. Draupadi Murmu said, ‘Indian Naval units have been deployed for long periods of time in large areas demonstrating their capabilities and strategic effectiveness. Your positive, proactive and prompt actions have saved countless lives at sea. It was a special moment for me when the President of Bulgaria called to express his gratitude for rescuing the Bulgarian crew from a hijacked ship earlier this year.
