J-K: Alliance Partners Pass Resolutions Against Waqf Bill, LG’s Transfer Order

Srinagar, Apr 4, KDC: In a political development, alliance partners in Jammu and Kashmir on Friday passed two resolutions during an emergency meeting convened by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, strongly opposing the Waqf Amendment Bill and condemning a recent transfer order issued by the Lieutenant Governor.

The first resolution denounced the Waqf Amendment Bill, describing it as a deliberate attempt to target Muslims and other minorities in the country. The second resolution expressed displeasure over the LG’s transfer order, calling it arbitrary and against administrative norms.

Addressing the media after the meeting, National Conference (NC) legislator Tanvir Sadiq told Kashmir Dot Com that the alliance is united in safeguarding democratic values and people’s rights. “We have passed resolutions urging the Government of India to respect the will of the people. While we maintain a cordial relationship with the LG, this should not be mistaken for weakness,” he asserted.

The emergency meeting, held at the Deputy Chief Minister’s Fairview residence in Gupkar, Srinagar, witnessed participation from legislators of the ruling alliance, barring Congress leaders Tariq Hameed Karra and Ghulam Ahmad Mir, who remained in Delhi due to prior engagements. (KDC)
