New Delhi: Today is going to be a very important day in the history of the country. Today the country is going to get a new Chief Justice. Justice Sanjeev Khanna will take oath as the 51st Chief Justice of the country today. President Draupadi Murmu will administer the oath of office and secrecy to him as the 51st CJI at Rashtrapati Bhavan at 10 am. Let us tell you that Justice Sanjiv Khanna will replace Justice DY Chandrachud. Justice Chandrachud retired on Sunday.

How long will the tenure last?

Justice Khanna’s tenure will last till May 13, 2025. Justice Sanjiv Khanna, serving as a judge of the Supreme Court since January 2019, has heard many major cases. Justice Khanna has been part of many important decisions like upholding the credibility of EVMs, scrapping the electoral bond scheme, abrogation of Article 370 and granting interim bail to former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal.

Who is Justice Sanjeev Khanna?

Justice Sanjeev Khanna was born on 14 May 1960. He was enrolled as an advocate in the Delhi Bar Council in the year 1983. In 2004, he was appointed as Standing Counsel for Delhi. In 2005, he became an Additional Judge of the Delhi High Court and became a Permanent Judge in 2006.

After this, on January 18, 2019, he was elevated as a judge of the Supreme Court. His retirement is on 13 May 2025.

Let us tell you that Justice Sanjeev Khanna belongs to a prominent family of Delhi. He is the son of former Delhi High Court judge Justice Dev Raj Khanna and nephew of former Supreme Court judge HR Khanna. He emphasized on reducing pending cases and speeding up delivery of justice.
