Kashmir: Police seized properties of 2 drug peddlers in Srinagar

As part of its intensified crackdown on drug trafficking, the Srinagar Police arrested two notorious drug peddlers under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act worth Rs. Assets worth more than 3 crores have been seized.

In the first instance, a three-storey residential building was attached at Banpora Batamaloo at Rs 65 lakh. The property owned by Abdul Ahad Bhat was acquired through the proceeds of illegal drug trade. Bhat, a notorious drug peddler, was earlier booked under FIR No. 31/2024 at Police Station Shaheed Ganj, where a substantial quantity of narcotics was recovered.

In another case, police attached a three-storey residential building in Umar Lane of Azad Basti, worth an estimated Rs 2.5 crore. The property belongs to Manzoor Ahmad Bhat, whose son, Jan Manzoor Bhat, was booked at Police Station Chanapora under FIR No. 35/2024 for drug trafficking in the area.

Both the properties were acquired using profits from illegal drug trade and have been attached under Sections 68 and 68F of the NDPS Act. As per the provisions of the Act, the properties cannot be transferred, sold or dealt with without prior permission of the competent authority.

This decisive action reflects J&K Police’s commitment to dismantle the financial networks that support drug trafficking and curb the drug menace in the region.
